Wishes And Roses (or, A Fantasy)

You’ve never brought me
breakfast in bed
but I dream of it, you know:

blueberry muffin
scrambled eggs with bacon
fresh-squeezed OJ

Maybe
a fragrant yellow rose in a vase,
standing guard over the latest copy of
Writer’s Digest

And you’d say
“You’re always taking care of me,
let me take care of you for once!”

Then you’d close the door,
put clothes in the washer,
do the dishes, and
mop the kitchen floor

while I’d happily nibble away
thinking only about
what to write that day.
