Whispered Wanderings

Have you ever hoped for something
you know you have no business wanting
and yet you can’t stop yourself from hoping
that somehow, you’ll get it
anyway?

Like: a birthday wish from someone
you know isn’t going to send it,
but in that secret corner of your heart
you wait for it all day long
anyway?

I think as my latest earth-year begins,
I’m going to work on where I place my hope.
Can’t let it be lost completely; there are
better places to aim it toward,
anyway.
