A Dream Inside A Dream

I lay me down to dream inside a dream:
Then lost, I wonder where my path may lead.
This tranquil sea I walk beside doth change,
when storm clouds break into the midnight sky
and lightning flashes hotter than the sun.
Oh great Zeus! Such terror you inspire,
in hearts and minds of little ones who fear!
Yet I alone must walk where I am led,
into and through the shadows of my soul.
Where twilight only deepens this abyss,
and I, forsaken now, can only sleep.
Then waken to a falsity of light:
‘tis but another layer of the dream.
