The Other Shoe

Today I thought of calling you.
Wasn’t much more than a thought,
since I don’t know what you’d do
if I did. I mean I know you would have answered,
if it actually went through.
But, you may have changed your number.
That’d be just like the other shoe
finally dropping! And besides, it probably wouldn’t have bought
what I think I would have wanted it to.

Today I chose the prompt to write a Magic 9 (so-called because the rhyme scheme is abacadaba, per Robert Lee Brewer’s Poetic Asides column, which of course is abacadabra minus the r.)
