Whispered Wanderings

My brain understands well.
It’s my heart still can’t catch up:
Loving you is all
it knows how to do.

I wish you would tell me
what it is about this relationship
that my heart just won’t
let go.

I mean
I’m whole enough on my own; and
my life continues on just fine without you in it!
Yet this… yearning
this… longing
this… forever wanting more:
a perpetually raging current just below the surface
that no one can see
that only I can feel
that you never understood.

So where does all of this leave me,
where does it leave my heart?
With only myself,
I suppose,
With only myself:
the missing you my only company
as the internal battle continues.
