NaPoWriMo Day 12

Today’s prompt: “write a poem that addresses itself or some aspect of its self”. Without further ado:

Direction

So, tell me where we should go today
I certainly don’t know…
Yesterday’s poem took me someplace that
I wasn’t expecting to go.

I’m feeling directionless tonight
Unsure even where to start
Would plotting where I want to end up
put the horse behind the cart?

I think it would, and so perhaps
just jumping in is best
I’ll let the words flow as they will,
so nothing’s unexpressed.

But are you really ready for that,
don’t you worry what I’ll say?
I might expose your deepest fears
and make you run away!

Yes yes, I should tell everyone
Those things you’d never speak
You’re such a liar half the time
inside your forced mystique!

See what I mean? That isn’t what
I ever would have planned.
You did it to me once again
with your sneaky sleight of hand.

Tomorrow I shall start anew
and draw myself a map
Of where I want to try to go,
and you can take a nap!
