NaPoWriMo Day 24

Exploring Time

Time’s a construct I don’t understand;
it rarely wants to mean the same thing twice.
I come and go and move about my day…
one hour disappears before it starts,
another seems to last about a week!
I wouldn’t really even mind so much
the speeding up in things that I enjoy,
if the slowing down of things I don’t
would also gain a modicum of speed.
Ah but then I realize that time
is something once it’s gone we can’t get back,
and gratitude for every second lived
replaces much of my impatience with
inherent inconsistencies therein.
And this is where I come to realize
that none of it was ever truly wasted
even when we feel like it was:
because it was a gift that we were given
the preciousness of which may hide awhile
until at last we’ve loved enough to see
how lucky we have been that we have had
any little bit of it at all.
