Grace

This, walking with part of me still in the past
my heart’s never sure where it is.
Triggers keep pulling me backwards in time;
I’ve watched myself act as the me I used to be
instead of as the me I’ve become.
I’m so overdue stepping out of that shell!
Outgrowing the comfort it provided.
Patient understanding at last begins replacing
yesterday’s defensive insecurities,
as I allow myself the grace
to just be here now
and
breathe.
